Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is increasingly the favourite to end the 2017-18 season as the Champions League’s top goalscorer after the exit of two main rivals.

Ronaldo had scored twice in Real’s 3-1, first-leg victory over PSG at the Bernabeu, and took his tally to 12 for the competition as he headed the holders’ first goal of the night in Paris on Tuesday.

Real went on to win 2-1 and progress to the quarter-finals with a 5-2 aggregate victory over the French giants, with Ronaldo five goals ahead a trio of rivals: Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Edinson Cavani.

However, the exit of both Tottenham and PSG from the last-16 stage leaves Firmino as the last remaining challenger within five goals of Ronaldo ahead of the second round of last-16 second legs next week.
