Morrison’s WeChat page is renamed “Australian Chinese new life.”

Published

The account of Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on the Chinese-owned social media platform WeChat was hacked and renamed on Monday, and a legislator accused China’s leaders of political meddling. However, Scott Morrison’s office declined to comment on the report.

Morrison’s 76,000 WeChat followers got alerted earlier this month that his page had to get renamed “Australian Chinese new life” and that his photo had been removed, according to Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph newspaper. According to the study, the adjustments got made without the knowledge of the administration. Morrison’s office did not respond to a request for comment on the report.

WeChat has not responded to an Australian government request to restore the prime minister’s account, according to James Paterson, chair of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on Intelligence and Security.

With Australia’s elections looming in May, Paterson accused the Chinese Communist Party of censoring the prime minister.

Paterson, a member of Morrison’s conservative Liberal Party, has called for a boycott of the platform. It is owned by Chinese internet giant Tencent. “The Chinese government has interfered with Australian democracy in an election year by shutting down an Australian account,” Paterson said Sydney Radio 2GB.

Paterson continued, “No politician should be on WeChat legitimizing their restrictions.” He also expressed concern that 1.2 million Chinese Australians who use the site do not see news from the prime minister. But could still see opposition leader Anthony Albanese’s criticisms of the government.

Dave Sharma, a member of the Liberal Party and a veteran diplomat, believes the involvement got likely sanctioned by the Chinese government. Morrison utilized WeChat to interact with Australia’s Chinese diaspora, Sharma claimed. However, the Chinese Communist Party ultimately owned the platform.

“It was most certainly state-sanctioned, and it demonstrates Beijing’s stance toward free speech and freedom of expression,” Sharma told Sky News television. Since taking over as Prime Minister in 2018, Morrison has had a tense relationship with China.

The Chinese have criticized a new collaboration established in September between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, under which Australia will get nuclear-powered submarines.

Meta Creates AI Research SuperCluster Supercomputer

Supercomputers are extremely fast and powerful machines. On Monday, Facebook’s parent company, Meta, announced the creation of one of the world’s fastest artificial intelligence supercomputers.

The social media titan thinks that the device will help to advance the metaverse, a virtual reality construct that will eventually replace the Internet as we know it.

Facebook expects the computer to be the fastest in the world when it is ready around the middle of the year.

Supercomputers are fast and powerful machines designed to perform complex calculations that a typical home computer cannot. Meta did not reveal the location or the cost of its construction.

The AI Research SuperCluster is a computer that is already up and running but gets currently developed. Meta claims it will assist its AI researchers in developing “new and better” artificial intelligence models that can learn from “trillions” of samples, work across hundreds of languages at once, and analyze text, photos, and video all at the same time.

It is reliant on graphics-processing-chip performance. It is required to run “deep learning” algorithms that know objects in images, interpret text, and translate across languages.  Meta measures its computer’s strength differently than other, more technically powerful supercomputers. Tuomas Sandholm is a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon University and the co-director of the AI center.

In a blog post, Meta stated, “We hope RSC will enable us to construct new AI systems that can, for example, provide real-time voice translations to big groups of people speaking multiple languages. So they can seamlessly collaborate on a research project or play an AR game together.”

The corporation claims that in training its AI, its supercomputer will use “real-world instances” from its systems. It also claims to have used exclusively open-source and publicly available data sets in the past.

“They’re going to put their consumer data on their AI research machine for the first time,” Sandholm said. “Giving AI researchers and algorithms access to all that data would be a huge change.”

WhatsApp is said to be working on several new features and functions. One of the impending improvements gets believed to improve the instant messaging app’s security, while the other is said to improve the app’s voice call interface’s customizability.

WhatsApp may display personalized chat wallpapers in the voice call interface while this functionality is still developing.

The new voice call wallpaper has to get discovered on WhatsApp for iOS and anticipates its way to WhatsApp for Android. According to the article, there is no information on when the feature will be available for Android handsets.

WhatsApp’s new voice call interface was first spotted in December. Last month, news of WhatsApp’s new voice call interface surfaced. The new interface, accessible for Android and iOS apps, is more compact and modern.
